The list below is provided as a guide to linking pleadings in CM/ECF. The general rule of linking is, “If what you are filing relates to something else on the docket sheet, then you must link it to that pleading.” The trick is knowing what requires linkage. Be sure to ALWAYS submit the main document first. The list below should help in providing some examples of the more common pleadings that require linkage in CM/ECF.

Pleading Should be linked to...
Affidavit Related motion / pleading (previously submitted)
Amended Complaint Original complaint
Answer to Complaint Original complaint
Amended Plan Original plan
Amended Order Related motion / pleading
Brief Related motion / application / complaint
Corrective Entry Incorrect entry / document only
Notice of Motion * Motion (submitted first) **
Notice of Hearing (in blank) Motion / pleading, etc. (submitted first)
Objection Pleading in dispute
Objection to Confirmation Plan
Objection to Motion for Relief from Stay Motion for relief from stay
Proof of Service All documents sent by party
Proposed Order Related motion / pleading, etc.
Proposed Findings of Fact Complaint / motion, etc.
Request for Hearing Pleading in dispute
Stipulation Related motion / application / pleading
Withdrawal of document Related motion / pleading / objection, etc. being withdrawn
Witness and Exhibit List(s) Related Motion / application / complaint

*If motion is submitted as a combined entry (motion/notice of motion/proof of service), it is not necessary to submit a separate notice of motion.

**Be sure to enter an objection date when prompted for combined entries (motion/notice of motion/proof of service).
