Event: Bankruptcy > Motions/Applications > Redact

A Motion to Redact is used to redact a document filed with the court.

Filing Requirements:

  1. Motion to Redact:
    • Identifying (a) the proposed redaction(s) and (b) the docket, or claim number, of the previously filed document.
  2. Copy of the Redacted Document:
    • Add a copy of the redacted document as an attachment to the motion.
      Note: Public access to the motion and proposed redacted document will be restricted upon filing.
  3. Proposed Order
  4. Proof of Service:
    • Serve the Motion and Proposed Redacted Document on: (a) debtor (b) debtor's attorney (c) trustee (if any) (d) United States trustee (e) filer of the unredacted document (f) any individual whose personal identifying information is to be redacted.
  5. Filing Fee: $28.00, per affected case
    Note: A closed case does not need to be reopened before filing the Motion.

To File Electronically:

  1. Log into CM/ECF.
  2. Select [Bankruptcy > Motion].
  3. Enter the case number (e.g, xx-xxxxx).
  4. Select [Redact] from the event list.
  5. Select the party filer. If the party is not listed, click on Add/Create New Party.
    Note: The Attorney/Party Association screen may appear. If your party selection was correct, check the box to create an association.
  6. Browse to select the Motion (.pdf file). Add the proposed redacted document as an attachment.
  7. Refer to the related document.
    Note: If redacting a Claim, do NOT check the box to refer to an existing event.
  8. To pay via credit card, leave the receipt field blank and select NEXT to continue filing.
  9. Modify the text as appropriate.
  10. Verify the final docket text; if correct, click [Next] to submit your document(s).
    Note: The Notice of Electronic Filing displays giving you the document number. Copies of this notice are immediately e-mailed to all participants who receive electronic notification in the case.
