A direct appeal to the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals can come about in one of three ways:
- The Court on its own initiative

Joint Certification by ALL Appellants and ALL Appellees acting jointly - Official Form 424
ECF Filing Event [Appeals > Joint Certification of Direct Appeal to Court of Appeals] -
Request (Petition) for Certification by one or more parties - but fewer than all of the Appellants and Appellees
ECF Filing Event [Appeals > Petition Requesting Direct Appeal]
Filing Requirements:
- Notice of Appeal must be filed prior to or with the request for direct appeal. Refer to appeal filing requirements.
An additional $307.00 filing fee is due after the Court of Appeals accepts the Direct Appeal. - Joint Certification to Court of Appeals (Official Form 424) or Petition Requesting Direct Appeal with a copy of the order/judgment attached. The Certification or Request is filed with the court where the matter is pending.
Note: A matter remains pending in the bankruptcy court for 30 days after the first notice of appeal. A matter is pending in the district court thereafter. A Joint Certification may be filed at any time. A Request (Petition) for Certification must be filed no later than 60 days after the entry of the order being appealed. - Proof of Service showing service of the Notice of Appeal and the Certification or Petition Requesting Direct Appeal on parties in interest.
